This event series, begun in 2016 (under the name Indigeneity and Allyship Week), centres Indigenous speakers and their experiences with the issues of Indigenous identity and settler-colonialism, and particularly to create space for Indigenous students and staff to think about resurgence and revitalization.
SSMU Indigenous Affairs is pleased to present the 2018 edition of its annual Indigeneity and Solidarity Event Series. A total of five events and one full-day conference put on by the Indigenous Student Alliance, in partnership with SSMU Indigenous Affairs, dispersed throughout the Winter semester make up this event series. We hope that these events will provide an opportunity for Indigenous and non-Indigenous students at McGill to learn about and reflect on Indigenous identity and solidarity both inside and outside of the university setting. Individual events will have their own focus, however each will offer a unique lens for considering issues of Indigenous identity and solidarity.
The event series culminates in a full day conference co-organized with the Indigenous Students Alliance and other partner groups. This year it will take place on March 24th under the title “Our Home on Native Land”. Find the call-out for proposals here!
