All SSMU mandates are passed either at a session of Legislative Council or at a General Assembly. The Vice-President External is mandated to coordinate mobilization and advocacy under policies like the new Policy on Harmful Military Technology. Policies and positions, which provide general guidance for the advocacy priorities, can respectively be found in our Policy and Plan book and in our Positions book.
For a more comprehensive picture, take a look at the VP External’s 2020-2021 Mandate Letter, where you’ll find the entire mandate.

Reports to Legislative Council
Reports to Legislative Council are one way in which executives, including the VP External are accountable to the student body. The Legislative Council is the legislative arm of the SSMU. Thirty councillors elected by specific constituencies, including school and faculty associations and councils representing particular student demographics, and the seven (7) SSMU Executives comprise the voting members of Council. Here are the VP External’s report to council for the 2020-2021 Academic year.
